Short answer: scented laundry pods are safe for most people with sensitive skin, for high-efficiency (HE) washers and for septic systems when three things are true: the formula contains no dyes, phosphates, parabens or phthalates; it is low-sudsing and fully dissolves in cold water; and the fragrance ingredients are disclosed so you can check for a known allergen. Sensitive skin: what actually causes irritation
Skin reactions to laundry are usually caused by residue, not by fragrance itself. Residue comes from over-dosing liquid detergent, from softener films, and from optical brighteners and dyes that stay on the fabric. A pre-measured pod removes the over-dosing problem, and a formula without dyes or brighteners removes most of the rest. Fragrance can be an allergen for a small number of people, usually to specific molecules such as limonene or linalool. That is why we publish the allergen disclosure per fragrance. If you have a diagnosed fragrance allergy, check the list; if you simply have reactive skin, a dye-free, paraben-free pod washed in a full rinse cycle is normally well tolerated.
HE washers
High-efficiency machines use less water, so they need a low-sudsing detergent. Too much foam stops the drum from tumbling properly and leaves residue. A concentrated pod is dosed for HE by design; look for the HE symbol on the box and never add a second pod to a small load. Correct placement matters as much as dose: put the pod in the empty drum, never the dispenser drawer.
Septic systems
Septic tanks rely on bacteria to break down waste. Phosphates, chlorine and harsh antibacterial agents disrupt them. A phosphate-free, biodegradable formula with a water-soluble film is septic safe at normal household volumes.
Children and pets
Any concentrated detergent must be stored closed, high and out of sight. Pods look like sweets to a toddler. Our box has a magnetic lid that stays shut; keep it on a shelf, not the floor.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use scented pods for baby clothes?
Many parents do once the baby is past the newborn stage. For newborns and eczema-prone skin, use a fragrance-free wash and an extra rinse.
Do pods leave residue on dark clothes?
Only if the pod does not dissolve, which happens when it is placed on top of a packed load or in the dispenser drawer. Put it in the drum first and do not overload.
Is the fragrance natural?
It is a perfumer's composition of natural and safe synthetic materials, the same approach used in fine fragrance. Fully "natural" fragrances are not automatically safer; some essential oils are stronger allergens than their synthetic equivalents.
